Storymix Bride Ashley: DIY Tea Party Bridal Shower
About a month ago I was surprised by a bridal shower thrown by my mother, sister (Maid of Honor) and two aunts. My jaw dropped as the blindfold came off my eyes and revealed a garden tea party in my parents backyard.
A tent was the focal point of the event and was decorated with Christmas lights, lanterns and tissue paper flowers that my sister had made. The tables were donned with tablecloths my mother and her friend had made! They went to a discount fabric store and bought fabric for the tablecloths and the napkins at every place setting and then sewed them all for this special day.
For the centerpieces and favors, they went to local thrift stores and Salvation Army and gathered teapots and teacups of all different styles. The teacups were used as favors and the teapots were then displayed on cake plates or candle sticks to be used as the centerpieces at the tables.
The florist who is doing the wedding, also did the bridal shower. Her name is Catherine Epright and her shop is call Green Dahlia Florist. My mother and aunt when to her with what they had in mind and brought her all the teapots and she created a very whimsical yet elegant feel with the centerpieces.
For the teacup favors, they were actually little mini flower arrangements. The night before, the florist gave my family and friends involved in putting the shower together, a tutorial on how to put the arrangements together in the teacups, using oasis, votives and the variety of flowers. They had a ball putting them together. A very fun DIY favor.
To go along with the theme, they spread the word to family and friends and gathered plates, glasses, pitchers etc. in order to not have to buy or rent these items.
There was also a Mimosa bar! Enough said there. My sister printed and framed a few recipes and it was a huge hit. It was a very, very hot day, so it was too hot for tea and the mimosas hit the spot!
Even the food was centered around a tea party, with finger sandwiches, scones, mini cupcakes, sugar cookies in the shape of tea cups and tea pots. It was all delicious!
Take a look at all the photos in this fun slideshow. It was an absolutely gorgeous shower and I can’t thank those involved enough!
