Motivational Monday | What I Accomplished This Week in My Wedding Planning
This is the inaugural post of our Motivational Monday series. Motivational Monday will be YOUR chance to share unique wedding ideas or ask for advice about your wedding planning.
We want to see your progress! Use your WeddingMix app to capture photos and videos of all your planning. The footage can be included in your final WeddingMix video as a memento of your entire wedding planning journey. You can also include your videos and picture in your Motivational Monday guest blog post.
Leave a comment below if you’d like to be a guest blogger and brag about your own wedding planning progress. For now, I’m kicking it off with details from my own wedding.
We had a crazy whirlwind DIY engagement. Each week was filled with goal setting our DIY dreams. I wanted a $2000 dress, but had a $500 budget. So I did what any sane person would do. I learned to sew. I had been a cake decorator, so of course, I would make my own cake. You get the picture. But let’s start at the beginning.
Mr. Storymix proposed on a lovely fall afternoon in a garden of the Detroit Institute of Arts. And I, being so excited, immediately started planning in my head. I wanted to marry this amazing man as SOON as possible. After all, I had waited 2 1/2 years. I didn’t want to wait another minute.
I wanted to get married in January so we could go skiing on our honeymoon in Switzerland. I didn’t so much care about the wedding. I was ALL about the honeymoon.
Well, he quickly put the kibash on that one. With dozens of out of town guests, no one was going to fly into Detroit in January. And he really didn’t want a 4 month engagement.
So I immediately started bargaining. “When is the soonest we can get married???” “May or June” was the response.
Hmmmm. So I spent the first week of our engagement trying to get a date at the church. Normal people try to figure out the venue, photographer, catering etc. first; but I was a woman on a mission. We were getting married in a National Shrine, which would surely be booked and I wanted the soonest day possible.
Now read his response again. The soonest day possible would be… May 1st.
I called the church secretary and found out that May 1st was available on such short notice, but only at noon. Good enough for me.
So… for my first week, I booked the church. But just wait til you find out what happened next.
We want to hear and see your wedding planning journey. Did you make DIY save the dates? How did you make them? Show us in a video clip. Did you and your besties go out for the bachelorette party? Share your instagram photos. Have a question about where you went wrong with your balloon lantern project? Post it all here!
