I Had a Food Fight with My DIY Wedding Cake Before the Wedding!
I made my own DIY wedding cake. So, what could go wrong? I mean, I had been decorating cakes for years. It was a no-brainer to me to make it myself. And yet, I’m kicking myself for not getting the cake-making process and other key wedding moments on video. Especially the food fight.
It was definitely a bit crazy to attempt this particular DIY wedding cake project. I was doing so much else right before the wedding – the centerpieces, favors, rehearsal, drinking. Somehow I thought I could just fit a cake in there too.
The cake needed to be decorated one to two days before the wedding. No problem. I might have been ok. Maybe the stars would have aligned correctly for this. But no. I developed severe carpal tunnel and couldn’t hold a pencil, let alone a decorating bag the week of the wedding!
So what’s a girl to do? I got one of my bridesmaid’s liquored up and had her decorate the cake! Perhaps some of the cake fell on the floor. Perhaps some of it was thrown around a bit in a tipsy food fight. That was the middle part anyway, and I had made enough cake for 250 when we were only have 200. No one would notice if the far, deep, middle of the cake was globs of cake stuck together with icing, right?
Do you have any IDEA how much that video would be worth to me today??? If I had taken any video!
So, if you are equally crazy to do a DIY wedding cake, here’s what you should film:
- Buying the supplies – no joke, that part was an adventure!
- Making the actual cake
- Decorating and assembling the layers
- Transporting and setting up the cake at the venue
- THE FOOD FIGHT!
What DIY project are you doing and do you need help filming?
