How to Get Every Photo & Video from Your Wedding Guests without Overloading Your Computer
In last night’s webinar I shared the various ways to get all the photos and videos from your without overloading your hard drive. Let’s face it, your guests will have their phones out at every wedding event, snapping photos. But do you really want to be hunting all over the internet for them?
Look at all the events at which they’ll be snapping photos and videos:
- Proposal – fingers crossed someone got this on video!
- Showers
- Bachelorette
- Rehearsal
- Cocktail Hour – you’ll be off taking portraits, it’s the guests time to play!
- After party
- Day after brunch
And that’s in addition to all the usual wedding day festivities. If you figure that each person will take at least 10 photos/videos at each event, you can see how this will quickly wind up in the thousands of files.
So how can you get the files?
- Text
- Dropbox
- Google drive
- Facebook group album
- Wedding Photo app
Repeat after me – Never text a video. Never text a video.
I promise, you will look like a lego mini-figure in a texted video. It looks fine on your phone, but that’s about it. It’s a similar story with emailed videos. They are super compressed to email. Those tiny files are fine for viewing, but if you ever want to do anything with it, you need the full resolution.
Dropbox and google drive do offer the option to get the full resolution photos and videos, but with dropbox you need to send invitations and deal with permissions. Google drive can be limited by how much you can upload. Again, all these tools do work, but their are drawbacks.
Facebook group albums are pretty cool in that you can use the Facebook app itself to get all the photos and videos from your guests. One drawback is that you may not be able to download the videos, and everyone needs to be on Facebook.
Instagram is awesome for making the photos look cool, but you’re limited to 15 second clips. There are also a ton of free photo apps out there, but again you’re limited to 10 second video clips and they do super compress them.
With all of these options, there is a big 1000 pound elephant in the room. It’s the thing no one is talking about. What are you going to do with all those files??? You can use any of these tools/platforms to download the files. It may make you a little nutty searching all over instagram/facebook and you’re text history to find them, but you can get the files. But just like thank you cards, it becomes a big chore after the wedding.
