Lovely Lake Superior Proposal of The Matter Wedding | Casey + Mike
I knew Casey was a perfect match for a personalized WeddingMix video when she mentioned she made her own wedding hashtag and wedding website! From first meeting to upcoming DIY extravaganzas, read all about the super cute couple behind The Matter Wedding of 2015….and don’t forget the hashtag! #weddingmatters2015
We met in college through mutual friends. He didn’t go to the same school, but his best friends from high school lived down the hall from me Freshman year and he was always around. The first time I remember seeing him they were all goofing off playing video games and wearing these ridiculous paper hats that they had made. I remember him being very tall and handsome, but I was seeing someone else for awhile at the time so I didn’t think much else 🙂
The Proposal
We frequently vacation up on the north shore of Lake Superior. We love the hiking, the food, the fresh air, and the earth’s natural beauty.
At this time, we also had a trip to San Francisco planned that was coming up in a couple months. That’s when I thought he’d maybe pop the question. You see we designed the ring together – He just wanted something I’d like and I wanted to be involved since I’m the one wearing it for the rest of my life. I highly recommend shopping for the ring with your fiance and we went the custom design route since it ended up being cheaper. The surprise was still there – I only saw blueprints to approve and not the actual ring. After the blueprints were approved, I had no idea how long it would take to get back or how much it cost or when/how Mike would propose… BUT I knew I’d be getting something I completely love!
Anyway, I got a certificate for a resort stay in Grand Marais through work so we decided to take a last minute trip up to our favorite place. The resort was beautiful! But we spent a lot of time hiking and dining at nice places (since we saved so much on the hotel) and taking photos – a fun hobby of ours. Mike was being super romantic and just in-the-moment. That night we went to bed with our alarms set early so we could stroll down to the beach and get some great photos of the sun rising over Lake Superior. Mike found an old log and set up his camera on it to take a photo of us on the beach with that magnificent sunrise. He set the timer and came running over. I held out my arm to put it around him in our typical pose, but instead he dropped to his knee and asked me to marry him.
After the obvious ‘Yes!’ and a moment of celebration, I was dying to see this photo he had so thoughtfully arranged. Turns out, he took a video of the whole thing so there were plenty of frames to grab still photos from, plus we get to relive the moment forever! I was so thrilled!
Any DIY wedding projects coming up?
Our biggest DIY project is our website [matterwedding.com]. Mike and I both have an interest in web development and design so we really wanted to test our skills and make this website from scratch. No templates from conglomerate wedding planning sites, completely hand-coded!
We are still fine-tuning and working on details of managing registries and RSVPs via the website before we publish it to our friends and family, but it works and we are very happy with it!!!
What moments during your engagement do you want to remember forever?
The proposal for sure, and how happy I was announcing the engagement to our friends and family. Also, the planning. I’ve always needed to have my ducks in a row and have plans organized so my wedding was always thought to be the time to test my organizational strengths and so far so good! I’m having a blast shopping, tasting, bonding, and deal-hunting!
How can WeddingMix help you capture moments from The Matter Wedding?
I love social media so I made a hashtag [#weddingmatters2015] that I apply to all of my posts when I’m out planning or celebrating anything to do with The Matter Wedding. It’s great to pull those photos with the hashtag to look at all the bits n pieces that go into this important day. I’m going to use your hashtag feature to pull these photos and videos into our wedding video so we can re-live the moments as long as we want!
