The culture of the Philippines is diverse and has had many influences over the years, this of course was a result of prior colonization thus the by-product of this experience had the Filipino people gaining richness in customs and traditions in which many of it are relatively seen in terms of art, cuisine, religion, festivities, dating and marriage.
So here are things that you would likely see in a traditional Filipino wedding, just to name a few.
1. The Jam-Packed Guest List
When they mean a few guests, it actually translates to having more than a hundred guests over the guest list. In the culture of every Filipino they highly value family, which is to say that you should expect that the guest invites also reaches to their “extended” relatives. So it is likely that a Filipino wedding’s guest list will be crammed with additional names.
2. Filipino “Time”
Plus, there are rare instances when the invite says the wedding will start at a certain time; the guests usually arrive a little later after the said time. And when there are late guests, the usual scheme of things is that they skip the wedding entirely and just go straight to the reception just in time for when the buffet starts.
3. Delicious Food!
Also, a Filipino wedding is known to be a joyous occasion for all those involved which leaves the impression of it being a grand and festive experience for the bride and the groom. So as to be able to accommodate all those guests, the wedding will always be paired up with the best catering in Manila. Organizing a celebration with a brimming guest list is no easy task which is why proficient catering is always a must!
4. Entertaining Gimmicks
And after the whole ceremony, entertaining gimmicks also go hand in hand in any wedding reception. Long prepared speeches, singing performances and dance routines, photo booths and at least a few video presentations of the couple is hardwired in the reception’s programme. The wedding money dance (pinning money to the couples’ garments) is also a huge hit with Filipinos!
