How non-traditional can we get??
This has pretty much been the question surrounding the wedding planning that has been occurring the last 8 months since the engagement. But let me start from the beginning….
My fiancé and I got engaged July 4th, 2013. Proposal on the beach, just as the sun was setting, sneaky video of the whole thing. Sounds amazing, right? And it was. From that day on, my mind was in planning mode. Granted, we were on vacation, but all I could think about were lists, vendors, the date, and, of course, my dress. But there had to be a budget. And since we were paying for it all ourselves we got to make it exactly what we wanted (and not what we thought everyone else would want).
To give you some background on my fantastic fiancé and I….we are anything but formal. We hate to have attention on us. We love our friends and family to death. And we love music. Anything that can make you air guitar and air drum your way through a workout at the gym or standstill traffic during Houston’s rush hour. We love it all. But there was one band in particular that we knew we had to have. A local Austin, Texas favorite of ours. Full Service (fullservicemusic.com).
If you brides-to-be take anything away from this blog, then click on their website and listen to epic sounds of Full Service. My fiancé and I have been in love with them since Day 1. And they had to be at our wedding. A rock ‘n’ roll concert at a wedding??? Yes, please!! Once we could confirm that could be there, everything else fell into place. All I could imagine was air guitaring in my wedding dress like. Woohoo!!
Next on the “How Non-Traditional Can We Be” list came whom would have the honor of marrying us. My fiancé comes from a pretty traditional Catholic family. Me? My family is about as non-religious as they come. Luckily for me, my fiancé and I felt pretty strongly about including on those that mean the world to us at this wedding, including the person who would marry us. Enter Hannah. Our friend Hannah is a great creature of this Earth. Quirky, sweet as pie, lover of any and all Arnold Schwarzenegger impressions. As I was scouring my brain for whom we would give this honor, she was the first and only person that came to mind. So we got her ordained. Her biggest request…to wear a cape at the wedding. I love this girl.
Next comes flower girl and ring bearer. Following the non-traditional vibe, we pretty much allowed my niece (3 year old gorgeous, Elise) and my son (5 year old handsome, Brody) to pick what they wanted to be. So we will have a Flower Fairy and a Superhero walking me down the aisle. They will be the cutest things on the planet, I am sure.
To keep from rambling…..I will throw out that we rented a 1,700 acre ranch in the hill country in Texas for the venue. Family and Bridal Party will be staying at the ranch with us. There will be skeet shooting, yard games, BBQ, cupcakes, and kegs. Totally us and totally awesome.
In closing, I can say that this wedding is all us. When everything is all said and done, we spent only $7,000 (including everything and I mean everything!!!) . I am so happy to be marrying my true soul mate and best friend. Being surrounded by our close friends and family only makes it that much more perfect. March 22nd cannot get here quick enough!!
