This Photo Booth Proposal Picture Will Make You Melt| Jess + George
They say you always find “The One”when you lease expect it. In honor of surprise love, I am excited to feature the story of how Jess and George met, fell head-over-heels, and their completely adorable photo booth proposal story! And if this Kansas couple’s engagement was this endearing, the WeddingMix app and cameras are sure to capture all the surprising and wonderful moments from their wedding day!
George and I had our first date, drinks at the best local dive bar in Kansas, on a Daylight Savings time Sunday. George had changed all of his clocks, but…not his watch. He was finishing up at work (striking a theatre set after a show) when a student-worker reminded him about the time change. I had just arrived and ordered a bourbon at the bar. I still have his frantic text: “I am an idiot, and I forgot to spring my watch forward. I am so sorry, I thought I had another hour. I am still at work, I should be done in 30 minutes.” He was there in 15 minutes, and we had an amazing date. We may have lost an hour that day, but our lives sprung irrevocably forward.
We bought a house together in December 2012 and I was pretty sure that he’d purchased an engagement ring for me. Although the fact of our commitment to one another was already well-established, I wondered when he was going to officially pop the question. In Philly, over Christmas, while visiting my family? Not there. (Though he did surreptitiously secure permission from my father). In Hawaii, while visiting his relatives? Nope, not there. We wouldn’t have wanted to take attention away from his cousins’ double baby luau! The holidays behind us, I thought that maybe he’d wait until a special occasion or holiday, but little did I know that George had already hatched an ingenious engagement plan…
On a random Sunday evening in January of 2013, we went to have a drink at our favorite bar – the one where we’d had our first date. After a round of Bloody Mary’s, George lured me into the bar’s photo-booth. In the photo-booth sequence, you can see my initial cluelessness slowly turning to surprise as he asks me to marry him. I blurt, “yes, of course I’ll marry you!” In the third frame, it finally dawns on me to look down, and I see the beautiful ring. In the final frame of the sequence, recognition of the gravity of the moment turns to teary-eyed emotion and blissed-out happiness!
