Advice from the bride!

1. What part of your wedding planning are you most proud of?

I am most proud of how we combined so many of our favorite things into our reception details. First, David and I love to read, so we named each table a different place from a fictional book.

The guests were thus assigned seats at places such as The Shire, from Lord of the Rings, and Hundred Acre Woods from Winnie the Pooh. The cards that designated which table was which also included a description of the place, taken word for word from each novel itself.

We put books on the tables to enhance the theme, and wrapped them with ribbons matching the wedding colors. Secondly, for us books and coffee go hand in hand, so naturally coffee was available for the guests after dinner. Finally, David and I greatly enjoy playing games together.

For that reason we made sure there were a plethora of lawn games around the yard. It meant the world to us that our dearest family and friends got a little peak into our lives and what brings us joy.

2. Where did you get married?

The ceremony was at our church, St. Katherine Orthodox Church, in Kirkland, WA. We loved being joined in marriage at a place that has such meaning and significance for us.

The reception was then held in the backyard of my parents’ house, where I grew up, in Redmond, WA. I had always dreamed of getting married in that backyard, so it was incredible to be able to make that happen. That venue was perfect for our day. We strung up lights to border the edge of the yard and make a dance floor in the grass. With all of the flowers we used, it really felt like a fairy tale.

3. Why was using WeddingMix appealing for your big day?

It was appealing because we did not want the huge cost of a videographer, but we did want a video capturing the most important parts of the day. WeddingMix provided a happy medium. It was so special to be able to get videos and photos from the guests’ perspectives.

4. What were the most important moments that WeddingMix was able to capture on your special day?

I am especially thankful that our guests were able to get videos of the toasts. The words of my maid of honor and my husband’s eldest brother meant so much to both of us.

It is also amazing that we have a video of The Dance of Isaiah (the procession in the Orthodox Wedding Ceremony where the husband and wife symbolically take their first steps as a married couple).

5. What is your top wedding budget tip(s)?

My advice if you want to keep a budget low, is keep it simple. We had a very large wedding, but kept within our budget by doing our own food and drinks (yay Costco!), choosing the right venue, and saying no to spending money on things that didn’t truly matter.

At the end of the day, we knew we would mostly remember the people that were there, not any fancy food or decorations. We chose to spend money on what was important to us, and we kept it simple.
