Taryn + Mike | A Maryland Wedding by the Sea
This week I had the pleasure of interviewing one of our June brides, Taryn. She is a blogger for BridalBuds on WeddingWire and has the distinction of having her friends upload the most iPhone clips of any WeddingMix event to date. I asked her for some tips on getting the best video with WeddingMix.
Ariane: How did you get so many people to take clips?
Taryn: Mike and I met in college through mutual friends in the Greek system. A lot of our fraternity and sorority sisters thought the idea was great and therefore shot lots of video. A good friend of ours told me she regretted not having a video for her wedding, and recommended WeddingMix for me since we had a tight budget with no room for videography. We sent an email to all our friends asking them to help us get a wedding video. I think in most cases, friends will do it.
Ariane: Any particular scenes that were super important to you to capture on video?
Taryn: Mike and I planned a special entrance. He dipped me and then fist pumped New Jersey style. We forgot to tell the photographer ahead of time, so we did not get a professional shot of it. Our friend with the WeddingMix flip camera got it. Lots of guests missed it, and we were able to upload the video to Facebook. No photos were taken of it. It was only captured on the Flip camera. Just that clip alone made it worth it. Halfway through the reception someone stepped on my dress and ripped it. So I missed “Shout” while in the bathroom fixing my dress. Someone got it on video. Seeing myself later in video was so great. The day happens so quickly and I loved reliving it.
Ariane: Any feedback on the user experience?
Taryn: I wish we could track who took each video so Mike and I could thank them. Mike’s brother and sister in law took clips of U of Maryland. People said it was super easy to do and pretty foolproof. If they forgot to do it through the app, we were able to add the option to upload later. It was great.
Ariane: I agree. We’re looking into those options for WeddingMix 2.0. Version 1.5 (up for approval in the app store currently) will allow guests to bring in clips from their camera roll and upload to your project. Overall impressions?
Taryn: I recommend WeddingMix. The worst that can happen is you get no video, but the best that can happen is that you see your wedding day through the eyes of your guests. I loved that I could get the rehearsal dinner. Wish I had gotten whole process – dress fittings, showers, etc.
Best wishes to Taryn and Mike in the years to come.
