1) Do your research! I looked at dozens of venues before we found The Pacific Club. And think outside of the box- you don’t have to get married in a hotel ballroom, look at other types of venues.2) Think about what is important to YOU- we were going to be charged $800 for a three tier cake. We opted instead to order 7 bundt cakes from Nothing Bundt Cakes- cost us $200 total, and then another $250 from the venue to store, cut, and serve the cakes. Still- we saved $400 and I was happy with it.3) Look at the 4th or 5th page on the google results for something, and the cross-reference with Yelp, WeddingWire, etc. I knew I wanted a day-of wedding coordinator but I was not going to pay $2500. By looking past the first few pages of people (who get all the calls), I found an amazing wedding coordinator who charged too little for the service she provided if I am being honest with you!4) We got our flights to Bali and two nights accommodations for free by signing up and earning the sign-up bonus for two Chase Ultimate credit cards. You get 50,000 points for spending $4,000 in three months, and a round trip flight to Bali is 60,000 points so you can accrue that in a few additional months. (I am not suggesting you actually accrue debt- just pay off all your charges at the end of the month).
5) Negotiate! Almost everything in the wedding industry is negotiable. If you feel you are overpaying for what you are getting- then tell the person that it is not in your budget, or propose a cost that you are comfortable. We negotiated just about everything!
6) Don’t be afraid of a daytime wedding. By having a daytime/ lunch wedding, we were able to negotiate some minimums, and people did not drink as much, and we got away with only serving beer and wine.
