Renee + Joe | Red Rose Petals Wedding in Philadelphia @WeddingMix
Spunky WeddingMix bride Renee (of That Brides Got Moxie) was not about have to have a standard “pumpkins and leaves” fall wedding. Instead, this crafty bride went full-on DIY elegance by incorporating rosy hues, surprise explosions, and an epic Philly dance party! Best of all? Our app + cameras captured every important moment of this couple’s special day!
Even though Joe & I met and fell in love in Los Angeles, we wanted to have an East Coast wedding. It just made the most sense for us, as we are the only two in either of our families on the West Coast!
Since Los Angeles basically only has one season (“nice”), we were craving some real weather, and decided on a fall wedding in the heart of Old City Philadelphia, I knew right away I didn’t want to do the expected “fall colors/leaves/pumpkins” theme. I wanted a soft romantic feel, but I also wanted to incorporate my favorite color, red. Before I even met my husband, I knew my wedding color would be red. We chose a palate of red, peach, blush, ivory and gold.
We didn’t start our planning by trying to adhere to a strict “theme”. We just kept saying, “Formal and Fun!”. Over our 18 month planning period, some themes organically emerged – ombre, rose petals, variations on the iconic Love statue. These themes resonated in multiple ways throughout the day. For instance, we featured three different versions of the LOVE statue: the traditional on our aisle runner; our surname in the style of the statue for our ice sculpture; and then finally a metal sculpture mixing the two as decor for the reception. We didn’t plan all three at once, they just naturally evolved. We used rose petals as aisle decor, as the inspiration for our epic cake, and also for the linen for the cake table. Also, both the rose petals and our cake were done in ombre, a trend I love! I hope that one sticks around for a while!
Joe made all the vases for our centerpieces out of wine bottles. I made all the paper materials – programs, place cards signage, etc – myself, which was super fun. Ben Franklin was at our cocktail hour and he was a huge hit with our guests! It’s Philly after all, Ben Franklin is huge in Philly. We also wanted to have a crazy awesome dance party, despite the formal ballroom setting. I started the reception by surprising my husband with a petal cannon explosion as we kissed in the center of the dance floor, and then we started the party off with a fun choreographed dance. I am happy to report, we got a crazy awesome dance party- and so much more! Our guests also loved our Photo Booth, which Joe & I only managed to be in at the same time for 2 photos! It’s true what everyone says – our wedding day was over in a flash! Savor each moment! It will be a memory before you know it!
All of our little details added up to a totally amazing day!
