Phenomenal Wedding in Sarasota, FL
1. What were you most proud of when it came to your wedding?
Practicing and planning for our first dance!
One of the bridesmaids in our wedding is a professional dancer. We asked her to choreograph a surprise first dance for us- it went to the song we listened to on our first date. Our first dance started out as “Amazed” by Lonestar, then switched to “Dancing in the Moonlight” (the song Derek sang to me on our first date).

We were extremely nervous, even though we had practiced for months, but were very happy we went through with it. Our guests were surprised and it kicked off a fun night of dancing.
2. Where did the wedding take place?
We were married in Sarasota, Florida. We had a small family wedding ceremony in Derek’s grandparent’s backyard on Phillippi Creek. Our reception was at the Sarasota Garden Club.
3. What was appealing about WeddingMix for your big day?
We were interested in getting many different perspectives of our wedding and seeing what our guests were videoing.
I’ve been at weddings where the videographer was on the dance floor, in the guests’ faces, and almost getting in the way of the fun- we didn’t want that for our guests.
4. What special moments do you want to remember forever?
Every moment.
We want to remember the bounce house at the welcome party, our guests arriving, rehearsal dinner toasts, walking down the aisle, the speech opening the ceremony that reminded Derek he forgot the rings, exchanging vows, wedding toasts, dancing, and our exit.
This was the best weekend of our life and we want to remember all of it.
5. Did WeddingMix help capture those memories?
People were able to capture videos at all events throughout the weekend- not just the wedding.
Plus it felt like there was so much going on at our wedding that it would be impossible for one videographer to capture everything without being in the way.
WeddingMix allowed all of our guests to act as photographers and upload their videos directly to the app without us getting millions of texts and videos sent to us.
6. Who were the vendors you used?
a. Photographer – Peter Obetz, Real Deal Photography
b. DJ – Adam Hensleigh, Grant Hemond and Associates
c. Officiant – Brian Yost
d. Caterer – Grumpy Gourmet Catering
7. What is your big wedding budget tips?
First, decide what is most important to you and base your budget off of that. While planning our wedding we decided that a good photographer and DJ and a fun atmosphere were more important to us than more cake/expensive flowers/decorations. We cut costs on those items and spent more on what was important to us.
Second, consider alcohol when deciding on a venue. Our venue allowed us to provide our own alcohol. We provided beer and wine with one signature drink for the bar. Our family friends made craft pumpkin beer and an IPA. The wine and liquor were purchased from Costco so the non-chilled, unopened items were able to be returned after the wedding.
