5 Tips For Fabulous DIY WeddingMix Wedding Vids

All the work we do to plan weddings is done to make it simply the best day of our lives, right?  My husband and I knew we wanted to do something special to document our day and the WeddingMix Package was exactly what we were looking for.  We especially liked the DIY crowd sourced approach.  However, being the trained event planners that we are, it was clear that there are certain pieces to put into place to assure a fab DIY wedding video.

1.  Enlist Your Friends.  Before we ever ordered our Weddingmix package we made sure we had some dedicated friends to collect specific footage.  Our expectations were that these people, our friends Ryan and Kristin, would collect footage of our ceremony and reception.  We met for a 30-minute Skype session before the wedding and went over a list of must have shots.  Ryan and Kirstin went above and beyond.  They filmed with the rented Flip Video camera, two iPads, an iPhone, and a Cannon D-SLR camera.  They even uploaded the footage and recharged devices between the ceremony and reception to make sure we were good to go.  Enlisting people you trust to capture those must-have-moments is going to assure your video meets your sweet expectations.

2. Test + Share The App. I spent a good amount of time getting to know the Weddingmix App.  I did this because I wanted to be able to simple and effectively communicate to my friends I was spending time with, how they could capture video moments at our wedding.  While we had dedicated videographers, we also wanted to capture different points of view throughout the event.  Making sure our friends, downloaded, set-up and understood the Application in advance was key to the success of our clips.  We had over 50 user generated clips!

3. Wi-Fi Access. By testing the App you’ll discover that to upload the saved clips, the phone or device will need to be connected to a wi-fi connection.  We setup a wi-fi connection for phones in our ceremony room.  Some reception venues might already provide this.  If not, make sure you task someone to  check in with your enlisted help and other friends to assure they upload their clips the next day when they are connected to a network

4. Interview Questions.  I provided a list of simple questions to some of my friends that I had setup in advance to assure we were getting some personalized messages on our videos.  Todd and I didn’t  record videos to each other, but I think this is also a great way to personalize your video.  It’s nice for those dedicated clips to work their way into the final project.

5. Share the Message. Part of our impromptu video clip success was encouraged by the explanation cards we put on each table.  They included information about downloading the application, saving and sharing the clips and really helped get people involved who we didn’t have a chance to reach out to in advance.
